Switzerland is my third destination of 2 weeks solo traveling around Europe. I choose to stay at Geneva and not other city of Switzerland because Geneva is a very strategic stop according to my itineraries. I want to share my Geneva diary and let you know a bit of Geneva through my lens.

Honestly i didn’t prepare any research about Geneva and let it suprise me. And the truth is i’m so lucky to find the charm of Geneva. It’s super nice to walk on the street here, sitting anywhere without worry of everything. No one bother me and i didn’t see any tourist scam or a warning of pickpocket like in Paris or Italy. One thing that is a bit worried me is the city is so quiet and sometimes make me feel lonely.

Basicly my itineraries is take Ouibus from Paris to Geneva, stay and explore there, doing some daytrip to Annecy (France) and Titlis Mountain and then continue to Milan also by Ouibus from Geneva. I will share the daytrip stories on different post.

It’s still early in the morning when i arrive. I didn’t meet many people on the street while i was walking to my hostel. Spend the morning sitting by the famous Geneva lake and having breakfast with my lefover dinner from Paris there. The lake is so huge and i’m just too tired to walk around which actually will give you different environtment at each side. The water jet is the symbol of Geneva, read the history here http://www.geneva.info/jet-d-eau-fountain/

I go to the tram stop to catch my bus to Annecy. I walk everywhere that day because i still didn’t manage to understand the public transportation. Though it’s still reachable by foot. The tram stop is behind the geneva airport.

In the evening after i went back from Annecy, i decide to explore the old town of Geneva. The tram is free of charge as i get a card from my hostel.

I follow the note from the lady at the airport that give me direction how to reach the old town. I get down the tram and walk to the park. People enjoy spring lying in the grass, biking and reading book.

I continue walking and find a way going up with cobble street and old buildings on the side, arrive at the old town. Just walking up and adore the street and buildings, window stores that i pass, some cafe. After seeing Paris and walking here, it’s totally has different vibe. I was almost alone all the time when i wander the street, no one sitting on the cafe i pass. I end up on the famous church and they say you can see Geneva from above there. Yes i found the spot but i can’t see much.

As i still think hard how am i going to go back on the main street, i saw a car that carry passenger that look like public transportation in Indonesia (angkot). Turn out it’s public service and he say he can drive me to main road. The car is small enough so it can go to the narrow street around the old town that i though only for walking people. The driver is really kind, he get down from the car and walk with me to show the right tram for me to go back to my hostel.

I always adore a city that has quiet vibe, Geneva remind me Takayama in Japan when the street is so quiet and has charm at every corner. And i was very lucky to find the charm of Geneva on my short stay.

I stay at Geneva Hostel book from booking dot com, it’s clean and very affordable. They serve free breakfast with complete meal and a really delicious coffee. Gosh i love that. I meet many new friends and find out that most of the visitor are collage student that having a WHO meeting. The funny thing is, most of my roomate all sleep so early and wake up so late, so i was like the first one to wake up and go to bed the last. I kinda always sneak out of and to the room while everyone still sleeping.
